i feel like nonprofit lawyers will not do that good of a job on a case versus private attorneys…is this true

I have heard that loan modification companies are not allowed to charge any upfront fees. But I need to know if attorneys have to follow this same law.
Let’s say a mother wants to see an attorney because her son is trying to prove she is incompetent & will try to put her in a Senior home. She is not incompetent & needs an attorney to prove her case.
Exactly what type of attorney should the mother seek out?
I know two attorneys who work from 10 – 5, M – F and not a second more. Granted, I also know one who works 60 – 70 hours a week, but she is crazy.

the reason im filing is because i am on ssi disability and cannot work and as a result i cannot afford to pay my debts. my mom is also on disability and she filed and like 1 or 2 months later her credit score was like 630. she was offered all kinds of credit cards in the mail and she was given a fresh start. im considering filing for chp 7 bankruptcy w/out an attorney. i have a complete copy of all my debts and will take it to the court house to file them. any advice or suggestions?
I’m currently on the track to go to law school. I think I want to be a professor of law at a good university, but I’m not really sure if I want to be an attorney, per se. Would that be necessary though?
